1. Start with your own second attempt

Open a saved mistake and try the problem again before looking at the answer. Note where your reasoning becomes uncertain. This gives the one-to-one AI conversation a clear starting point.

Instead of asking only for the answer, identify the step you need help with. For example, ask why an expression represents the situation, which unit should cancel, or why a tempting alternative is incorrect.

After the blind review, complete the error log before moving to clone practice. Record the cause in your own words: did you misread a condition, choose the wrong method or make a calculation error? The current notebook presents blind review, the error log and three-clone practice as separate steps. A specific cause gives your next question a focus.

2. Make the tutoring conversation specific

SmartEdu’s AI tutoring is available around the clock. Use it to request a hint, unpack a concept or compare two approaches. In the demonstration, a units question connects dollars to boxes and then to nails; the explanation makes the cancellation visible.

Read the explanation actively. Check it against the original question and perform the calculation yourself. If something seems inconsistent, ask the tutor to clarify the assumption or show another example.

3. Practise a fresh variation

The demonstrated notebook generates a new variation of the same concept. Try it before revealing help. A changed context or set of numbers can show whether you understood the method or only remembered a previous answer.

After each response, check both the outcome and your reasoning. A correct result reached through a guess is a useful signal to ask one more question, not a reason to stop thinking.

4. Understand the three-variation review loop

The current SmartSAT.us product page describes clearing a wrong item by answering three different variants correctly. Use a fresh attempt to check the method rather than repeating a memorised answer. This is a practice milestone inside the product; it does not establish that a concept will never be forgotten.

Return later and see whether you can explain the idea independently. Parents can ask for one clear explanation, and teachers can use recurring difficulties to guide the next discussion. The aim is to make each mistake produce a better next attempt.

5. Four question starters for your next review

These are suggested study prompts, not extra buttons or guaranteed tutor responses. Replace the bracketed part with the step that confused you, and ask one question at a time.

After the explanation, close it and write one sentence describing the method. Then try a fresh variation without copying the earlier calculation. If you still need the same hint, note the gap and ask a more focused follow-up. A parent or teacher can ask “Why does this step work?” rather than check only whether the final answer is correct.

  • “I got stuck at [this step]. Can you give me one hint without revealing the final answer?”
  • “Why can [this unit or term] be cancelled here? Please show how it relates to the original question.”
  • “I chose [this option]. Which condition does my reasoning fail to satisfy?”
  • “Here is my explanation in my own words: [my reasoning]. Which step should I check again?”

6. A unit-check example you can work through yourself

Here is an independent study example written for this guide, not a captured SmartEdu question, AI reply or student result. You have $24, each pack costs $6 and each pack contains 8 items. How many items can you buy?

First name the target unit: items. Write the conversion as 24 dollars × (1 pack / 6 dollars) × (8 items / 1 pack) = 32 items. Dollars and packs cancel, leaving the unit the question asks for. Check the intermediate result too: $24 buys 4 packs.

If you obtained a different result, point to the first step that differs: the price ratio, the pack count or the multiplication. That gives your next tutor question a precise focus. Then apply the same unit check to a fresh variation without copying these numbers.
